Abstract Art Journaling With Holbein Gouache and Mixed Media Layers
Today I’m back in my Bare Spine Beauty journal, continuing to fill the pages of a handmade book I created in class. For this spread, I’m using Color Cube palettes as my guide, but I’m switching up the dominant color in each abstract to see how the same palette feels when different hues take the lead.
I also taped off two different painting sizes to add a little extra movement and interest to the composition of the pages. I’m layering Holbein gouache, Faber-Castell Black Collection pencils, Kingart gel crayons, a Uni-ball Signo white pen, and Posca pens to build lots of mark making, texture, and playful detail.
If you love color experiments, mixed media layering, and art journaling in handmade books, this one’s for you.
