Weight loss pill could arrive by Christmas | 7NEWS
Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk is seeking regulatory approval from the TGA for a pill version of the weight loss injection Wegovy, with a decision expected by Christmas. The once-a-day oral medication contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 peptide that suppresses appetite, and would be the first approved oral GLP-1 peptide for chronic weight management in Australia. With two in three Australian adults and one in four school-aged children now overweight or obese, doctors emphasise the need for more treatment options to intervene early and prevent weight-related health conditions.
